VIADER
ETYMOLOGY OF THE SURNAME VIADER
Exist various hypothesis on the meaning and the
origin of the surname Viader.
MOLL (1985) indicates that probably it has its origin in the Germanic
personal name "Weidheri". The same author indicates
in old documents appear the latinized forms "Viadarius"
and "Viadero".
ALBAIGÈS collects this same hypothesis, explaining that
Weidhari means army hunting.
COROMINES (1991) is of the opinion that "Viader" originates
of wayfarer and says that the hypothesis of MOLL of the fact that
has its origin in the talinized form of a Germanic name "supposes
a slight of the linguistic sience", because "Weiheri"
only it could give cause for "guaiter" .
Ferran Viader Gustà, current depository of the familiar
file of the Oldest Viader Familiary Home in Parets d'Empordà,
relates the surname Viader to the ancient Roman causeway, since,
says, "is to them found in the proximities of these ancients
roads, such as passes currently with the solars most known of
the Viader, (Viloví, Sant Joan Desvalls, Bescanó,
Galliners, etc)".
We should clarify also that the surnames "Viader" and
"Viadé" they are equivalent, since this last
originates of a registration mistake of the previous. Some and
other are found mixed throughout the history and children of Viader
become Viadé or inside out, according to that they may
have been registered one way or another in the Civil Record. This,
often was to officials cargo are spanish not catalan, those which
write the Catalan pronunciation of Viader as" Viadé",
such and as passes with many other surnames (Ollé by Oller,
Farré by Ferrer, etc).
ORIGIN
The surname Viader is of Catalan origin and until
eras very recent was impossible to find it outside of the limits
labeled by the provinces of Girona and Barcelona therefore to
the Catalonia under Spanish administration is referred, and of
the various regions of the Catalonia under French administration.
According to GARCÍA CARAFFA (1968) the most ancient solar

live representative of the surname and other in which was strange,
present today stable populations. A third case that calls yet
more the attention, it is that of populations where the colony
that lived in her makes hundred or two hundred years, it does
not has relationship some with the current, since the first or
well was extinguished, or migrateed, and the current is fruit
of an or of several recent settlings.
Also it is given the case of isolated presences and without continuity
of Viader strangers in the bosom of a colony that it is not the
his own and the living together of two or more branches in a same
population. An extreme case would be that of city of Barcelona
where, throughout the last50 years has been detected the representatives
presence of practically all the branches.
HISTORICAL EVOLUTION
Around the end of XVI century the Viader were concentrated
in a area geographical area very small that it occupied so alone
five checkered of "UTM of 10 Km of side", in the regions
of the Empordà, La selva and the Eastern Vallès,
and possibly also a sixth checkered in the Cerdanya.
100 years afterwards the situation was practically identical.
Already there was, however, Viader with permanent residence in
Barcelona and is confirmed the presence in the Cerdanya.
Upon finishing the century XVIII the core of the Empordà,
la Selva and the Eastern Vallès have been extended, and
it has appeared a first core in the Maresme. The total number
of the checkered of UTM is already of 12.
Around the end of XIX the situation has changed radically. In
so alone hundred years has been duplicated of surpluses the number
of checkered of UTM that has become of 27. All the core have been
extended especially those of the coast of Girona and those of
Eastern Vallès and the population of Barcelona is made
extensive to its metropolitan area.
In 1993 (date of this study) the Viader are extended by 35 checkered
and, though some of the previously busy areas have let of be it,
is observed a growing expansion even toward very removed areas
from those which traditionally would see occupying.
CURRENT DISTRIBUTION
In its extensión current, the surname give
of the Empordà is expanded by the coastal and precostal
regions of the provinces of Girona and Barcelona (Catalunya).
Also it exists a core of Viader, residue of other much more vast,
in Puicerdà, that fits to relate to the branch of Vilafranca
of ++Conflent.
Away of Catalunya we are detectat Viader, in the Balearic Islands,
Valencia, Madrid, Galicia and Melilla.
In Europe there is Viader in France (some one are french people,
and other arrived from the Spanish State), Germany and Great Britain,
and in the rest of the world, in the United States, Mexico, Argentina,
China and, probably, in the Uruguay.
